Title : Temporomandibular Disorders vs Trigeminal Neuralgia: How TMD has continued to fool Neurologists!

Abstract:

Trigeminal Neuralgia has perplexed clinicians and researchers for centuries.  There is so much conflicting literature on the etiology of this rare and debilitating disease.  In this presentation we will explore new explanations and diagnostic capabilities that shed light on what so many are observing when treating this unique group of patients.  Literature review and case presentations will be discussed along with novel new research and its promising results.  TMD is a great chameleon and only the astute can separate the two.  Insight will be given to aid the provider in a proper diagnosis.

What will audience learn from your presentation?

  • How to determine if your patient has TMD or TN
  • What question are critical in a new patient medical history?
  • This presentation will help you and your patient from wasting time and save both the practitioner and patient frustration by treating the wrong etiology
  • Is it enough to take a history and order an MRI?
