Abstract:
For 2000 years, scientists searched for material foundations of the psyche, which proves to be non-material, thus this paradigm should be changed.
It has been proved that: 1) for 2000 years, most scientists mistook the concepts: while speaking about research and therapy of the psyche, they studied and treated the brain; 2) the brain and the psyche are two different systems; 3) the brain and the nervous system are material substrates regulating inner organs and adaptive functions of the organism; 4) the psyche is a non-material informational structure developing via language programming of the brain in a social informational environment and regulating cognitive, emotional and behavioral aspects of social adaptation of personality in accordance with the demands of society, in which one’s psyche was formed; 5) neuroses and other mental disorders (about 50% of psychopathology) resulting from psychic traumata (information) that damage the psyche (informational system) are not related to the brain pathology and thus require a different paradigm of therapy. Using psychopharmacology is similar to treating a computer virus (information) that damaged the computer software by trying to fix its hardware; 6) studying the psyche as a non-material structure requires significant change in paradigms of all human sciences.

Professor Mikhail Reshetnikov (born in 1950), MD, PhD, Meritorious Scientist of Russian Federation, is the Rector of the East-European Psychoanalytical Institute, Past-President of the European Confederation of Psychoanalytical Psychotherapies (ECPP, Vienna, Austria) and its Russian National Branch (St. Petersburg, Russia); Past-President of All-Russian Council in Psychotherapy and Consulting (Moscow, Russia), a member of World Council of Psychotherapy (Vienna, Austria); a board member of Russian Psychotherapeutic Society (St. Petersburg), Russian Psychological Society (Moscow, Russia); a member of International Non-Governmental Organization “Bridge between Eastern and Western Psychiatry” (Rome, Italy).
Mikhail Reshetnikov is a member of Council of University Rectors (St-Petersburg, Russia); a member of Scientific Council at Philosophy Dept and Psychology Dept of St. Petersburg State University and Scientific Council at Institute of Emergency and Radiation Medicine (St. Petersburg, Russia); a member of Expert Council at Ministry of Emergency Services (Moscow, Russia); a member of the St. Petersburg’s Club on Psychology of Politics (St. Petersburg), a member of the Board and Chair of the Psychological Department of the St. Petersburg House of Scientists of the Russian Academy of Science, a member of editorial boards at a number of Russian and international journals on psychology, psychotherapy and psychiatry, on ecological catastrophes, techno-genic and social crisis.
